Tinashe - Boss (Ryan Hemsworth Remix)
Hemsworth at it again, this time with a sweet remix of Tinashe's "Boss." There's a lovely, slow build up until about 40 seconds in, when it really gets started with the kicks and hi-hats. Nice little change to the chorus, too.
Really dig how Hemsworth has given this track a whole new electronic vibe, uplifting it from its relatively slower pace.

High dive into frozen waves
where the past comes back to life
Fight fear for the selfish pain
And it's worth it every time
Hold still right before we crash
Cause we both know how this ends
our clock ticks till it breaks your glass
And I drown in you again
Cause you are the piece of me
I wish I didn't need
Chasing relentlessly
Still fight and I don't know why
If our love is tragedy why are you my remedy
If our love's insanity why are you my clarity
walk on through a red parade
And refuse to make amends
It cuts deep through our ground
And makes us forget all common sense
Don't speak as I try to leave
Cause we both know what we'll choose
If you pull, then I'll push too deep
And I'll fall right back to you
Cause you are the piece of me
I wish I didn't need
Chasing relentlessly

If our love's insanity why are you my clarity

The Man's Guide to Buying a Watch - Episode 1: What is a Movement?
IWC delivers the first of what we hope will be a nice series on the art of buying watches. The series will “cover the very basics of what a watch actually is, detailed definitions of complications, how design and style play a roll in mechanical watches, and how to keep your watch serviced. These will serve as an introduction to mechanical watches for some of us and a reminder to others, but they are worth a watch either way.

Jubilants - Fiasco
After the success of their first two singles (which both reached staggering heights on Hype Machine), Sydney's Jubilants are back with another indie pop treasure. Australia has become synonymous with the genre in recent times, but the sheer vibrancy of 'Antics' and 'Spain' have helped the four-piece carve out their own little niche in the overflowing talent pool.
'Fiasco' contains all the ingredients they need to have another hit on their hands. The combination of tropical themed percussion, towering guitar riffs, and pulsating synth arrangements have served (fellow Australian) bands like Last Dinosaurs well in recent times, and I can see no reason why these guys shouldn't eventually be aiming for a similar trajectory.
Destiny's Child - Say My Name (Cyril Hahn Remix)
Cyril Hahn, who hails from Switzerland but currently works out of Vancouver, has graced us with a smart and banging reworking of a kitschy classic in his remix of Destiny’s Child’s “Say My Name”. This song has more or less been on loop in my brain for the past few weeks. The track does an enormously successful job dancing a fine line between earnest ass-shaking remixery and totally irreverent irony.
From its opening cut, Hahn plays coy with the remix. The original track isn’t immediately recognizable if you’re not listening for it, and the pulsing beat draws you in from the start. The downtempo bassline also creates a sultry soundscape that begs the listener to get funky.

The Weeknd - Enemy
The Weeknd masters the art of seduction…without a word on his new song “Enemy,” which he released for his fans online.
“I’d rather be your enemy than any friend you think I would be,” sings the Toronto crooner. “I’m just tryna take you home without a word/ I’m just tryna kiss your neck without a word/ I’m just tryna lay you down without a word.”
The dark, piano-driven cut will not appear on his three-disc debut Trilogy, which contains his mixtape material along with the new tracks “Twenty Eight,” “Valerie,” and “Till Dawn (Here Comes the Sun).”

Disclosure feat. Sam - Latch
UK's electronic music duo Disclosure just released the sexy new video for their Sam Smith-assisted amazing single "Latch". The video perfectly matches the storyline of the song, starting off with a telling elevator scene in which the thrill of wanting another person is evident. It seems that the brother duo took Sam's vocals to heart when creating the video, as there's a lot of literal latching and lip-locking throughout the video. No complaints here, as the infectious single was already more than enough to keep me interested. Not to mention the good-looking cast, captivating visual effects and Disclosure's trademark face drawings that become more visible throughout the video. "Latch" is Disclosure's first release since they signed with PMP Records, the label that brought you Jessie Ware's debut album.

Northeast Party House - Stand Tall
Melbourne’s Northeast Party House released their new single 'Stand Tall' last month, and i'm rating it highly. They're currently finishing up a national tour, which included a stop at Bigsound Live and a support slot for Mystery Jet's Melbourne show.
The five-piece are already renowned for their wild live shows and upbeat indie rock (see previous single 'Pascal Cavalier' below), but they've taken a serious turn on their new track. Heavier in both sound and theme (see the single's accompanying video above), it's a good indication that they’re no one-trick pony.
Northeast Party House have an album scheduled for release in 2013 (which will include both singles), and with tracks like this on it, it's bound to be one to look forward to.

Glass Animals - Cocoa Hooves
Described as "poly-pop" by Pitchfork, Glass Animals' sound is pretty hard to define. One thing’s for certain: the track is undeniably smooth.
Released sometime last month on an EP titled Leaflings (via Kaya Kaya Records), the standout element for me is definitely the futuristic bass line. Seriously, it makes me want to run out and grab new speakers with a lower depth spectrum.
Anyway, the reason this one caught my attention today is that they've officially released a music video to go along with the track. Without further ado, here it is…

Kimbra - Two Way Street (Aeroplane Remix)
Slated to be released as part of an upcoming album of Kimbra remixes, this rendition of “Two Way Street” actually retains some of the elements that made Aeroplane’s “I Crave Paris (Ft. Friendly Fires & Flight Facilities)” so damned amazing. Clearly that’s a good thing, as Kimbra Lee Johnson’s vocals intertwine incredibly well with the harmony and rhythm.
Fingers crossed that with the album Vows now more than a year old, each remix artist featured new release will have had enough to time to perfect their version the same way Aeroplane has.

The Weeknd - Rolling Stone (Official Video)
The Weeknd remains oh so mysterious considering the amount of exposure he's received since he burst on to the scene not too long ago. And now, he's unleashed a brand new video for the track "Rolling Stone". He recently signed with Universal and will be dropping his Trilogy album on November 13. The album will consist of his first three mixtapes and will also include a few bonus tracks. Hopefully this video, and the various other upcoming small drops, will hold everyone over until the album release. Enjoy.

Wiz Khalifa ft. The Weeknd - Remember You
Wiz Khalifa and The Weeknd are doing their Usher / Ludacris thang here, and it’s pretty solid considering the pedestrian "C’mon groupie show me what you got" subject matter.
The Taylor Gang captain dropped a video for his the Weeknd duet "Remember You,"the latest single from Wiz's December 4 LP O.N.I.F.C. The Ryan Hope-directed, anecdotal clip doesn't feature the Weeknd at all, and instead of focusing on performance shots, it weaves a trippy narrative that toes the line between seductive and downright scary.
The visual tale begins in a diner, where an innocent-yet-curious waitress locks eyes with vamped-out temptress with blood-red lips, long dark hair and an even darker gaze. "She's about to earn some bragging rights/ I'm about to give it up like I've been holding back all night," the Weeknd sings as the two lovers move from the diner to a dark alley to exchange heavy kisses and an erotic embrace.
From there they find themselves at a sexy, but freakish house party where women gyrate to the music and one (dressed in black leather) literally bends over backward at the sight of the waitress heroine. Our leading lady is clearly turned on by the forbidden lifestyle as her head lays on a swivel surviving the party and her gothic surroundings.
The video beats on for a shade more than two minutes before we even get our first glimpse of Wiz, who exhibits his star power, rapping while getting fitted for clothes. That's right: The Taylor has a tailor, who measures his tall and lanky frame, almost unaware of the heat that Khalifa is spitting. "N---as after fame, I just have to laugh/ N---as after fame, I'm just after cash," he rhymes of his lifestyle with a slow and calculated flow.
It's definitely not your average rap video, and a far cry from Wiz's last shot, the performance-heavy "It's Nothin'."The focus here is clearly the cautionary tale of living life too fast. By the end of the clip, things begin to spiral out of control as the waitress stumbles around the party, gripping the walls trying to find a balance before she finds a spot on a bed to cry. As the mascara runs down her face the Weeknd sings, "All I ask of you is try to earn my memory/ Make me remember you, like you remember me."
Yep, pretty unforgettable.

Mono - For My Parents
Mono is a Japanese post-rock band that formed in 1999. Since then, the band has released a handful of records, much of them receiving plenty of critical acclaim. They have remained a steady staple of post-rock music and a band that is often counted on for their very colorful, majestic arrangements. For My Parents is the newest release by the quartet and is a very standard release by the band. The music is exactly what you would expect from them as they incorporate these grandiose sections with some ostentatious production that seems almost overwhelming in an odd way. Like their last record entitled Hymn To The Immortal Wind, even Mono seems to get lost in their outrageous and complex verse structures and it tends to become a bit pompous in a way. Post-rock needs to have strong build ups with tremendous climaxes that bring all the sounds together but Mono always seems to drift away and disregard this very basic element. As usual, Mono is creating some very elegant atmospheres that are quite gorgeous but the lengthy track times that don't have any real escape just end up being a bit boring and a little less fruitful than what post-rock music is normally accustomed to.

Drake Ft Dawn Richard - Where Were You
Drake has just revealed his brand new track called "Where Were You". Instead of offering upbeat tempo, the Dawn Richard-assisted song is more of an alluring ballad with clicking beats, expensive-sounding synths and mid-paced tempo. Drizzy sings about a man who still feels desperate even years after breaking up with his girlfriend.
"I have to watch the road, I swear that every car that passes has you in it, I can't believe we're finished, My life is movin' fast, The time will often pass, And something will remind me, I can't put this behind me," so Drake softly croons in the verse.
There's still no word on whether "Where Were You" will appear in Drake's upcoming album or mixtape. The Canadian artist's manager and producer Colin Munroe explains that the track was supposed to be Drizzy's collaboration with him and producers Boi-1da and D10.
The song was initially submitted to be included in Drake's 2010 studio set "Thank Me Later". Since it was eventually not featured in the album, Munroe released his own version of the song titled "Whatever Became of You", which was included in his mixtape "Unsung Hero".
[Verse 1: Drake]
I have to watch the road
I swear that every car that passes has you in it
I can’t believe we’re finished
My life is movin’ fast
The time will often pass
And something will remind me
I can’t put this behind me
I thought you would’ve called by now, by now
You could’ve had my all by now, by now
It’s been too many years for you to disappear
And have me asking the question
[Hook]
I wonder whatever became of you
Although, It’s not that I’m surprised, It’s not I didn’t try
It’s not that I was frightened, of you
Although, I said all goodbyes
And, you had all your cries
I wonder whatever became of you
I wonder whatever became of you
I wonder whatever became of you
[Verse 2: Dawn Richard]
I swear I heard you call
But when I heard you’d gone
I hate that I looked desperate
You gone is like me naked
I’m staring at your (?)
Trying to make it last
Keep looking close behind me
My eyesight on a memory
I thought you would’ve called by now, by now
You could have all my love right now, by now
Gave into my fears
While you just disappeared
That’s why I’m asking this question…
[Hook]
I wonder whatever became of you
Although, It’s not that I’m surprised, It’s not I didn’t try
It’s not that I was frightened, of you
Although, I said all goodbyes
And, you had all your cries
I wonder whatever became of you
I wonder whatever became of you
I wonder whatever became of you
[Verse 3: Drake]
I can’t go to bed
Thinking about my goals
And how we used to say a goal is just a dream with a deadline
Where did the other half of my heart go?
Why am I in bed alone?
How come when I drive by, it looks like you are never home?
Do you even live there?
Or did you take a U-Haul?
Too far, move off and not even tell me that you’re gone?
We were on fire
Somehow that fire cooled off, burnt out
I kept straight, but I wonder how you turned out
[Hook]
I wonder whatever became of you
Although, It’s not that I’m surprised, It’s not I didn’t try
It’s not that I was frightened, of you
Although, I said all goodbyes
And, you had all your cries
I wonder whatever became of you
I wonder whatever became of you
I wonder whatever became of you

Priyanka Chopra ft. will.i.am - In My City
Not the best song, but hey, it's Priyanka Chopra...
Priyanka Chopra has added another feather to her cap with her international debut as a singer with the single In My City, featuring will.i.am. The album itself is expected to be released early next year, the promotional video of which will be launched internationally at the National Football League in the US on NFL network.
In an interview, Priyanka talks about her singing debut, fulfilling her father's dream, and the challenges that came her way.
You are making your singing debut with an international music single. How does that feel?
I am thrilled to launch my debut album. This is a culmination of a two-year journey that has been the toughest yet the most enriching experience of my life. It also marks the beginning of a new chapter. I walked into this project as a novice with no training in making music and today I am proud to be able to do something on a global platform that India would be proud of.
How did your musical dreams shape up?
When I was shooting for 7 Khoon Maaf in Coorg, I was in a very serious headspace. My manager, Natasha Pal, insisted I just have a meeting with a music label, as it could be an interesting idea. I came back from Coorg and met a couple of people from Universal Music Group. I was wondering how these people came to know that I could sing. I came to know that it was (composer) Salim Merchant who told them that I could sing. Later, Jimmy Lovine (chairman of Inerscope Records) came on board and then Red One, who won two Grammies last year, also became a part of the album.
It looked like everything was coming together. My vocal coach Sam helped me a lot. She came with me to all the shoots that I did in the last two years. After pack up, we would do the riyaz and concentrate on my notes and range. I never thought I could sing like this. It has been a wonderful journey.
Alpine - Hands (Goldroom Remix)
Josh Legg, the Los Angeles-based musician better known as Goldroom, has dropped off another scorcher for our listening pleasure . It’s a fun, dance-tastic take on Alpine’s 'Hands' and it is sure to cheer you up on this boring start to the week.
Goldroom has been bringing the heat lately with remixes of Lancelot, Citizens!, and of course this track. Everything this guy touches seems to turn into music blog gold. Enjoy and be sure to keep an eye out on more Goldroom remixes, which are likely to be invading your headphones soon enough.
Ultraísta - Smalltalk (Four Tet Remix)
Stop with the small talk
Won't you
Don't wanna feed the nightmare
Sharp memory talks
I hear around the room
Don't wanna hear no more
Hear no more from you
Stop with the small talk
Won't you
I don't wanna hear the nightmare
Sharp memory talks
I hear around the room
Don't wanna hear no more
Hear no more from you
And you no longer seem to cope
With what you ask for
But if you haven't gone back
How can you start again
This south island
Is thorn apart
But I'm stuck in it
For this time
When I breath
Does it show that the more I learn
The less I know
Is not enough to crawl back
Because you have to realise
That if you choose to start again
You gonna leave me mid-air
And you no longer seem to cope
With what you ask for
And you no longer seem to cope
With what you ask for
Stop with the small talk
Won't you
Don't wanna feed the nightmare
Sharp memory talks
I hear around the room
Don't wanna hear no more
Hear no more from you
And you no longer seem to cope
With what you ask for
And you no longer seem to cope
With what you ask for
This south island
Is thorn apart
But I'm stuck in it
For this time
When I breath
Does it show that the more I learn
The less I know

The XO Crew
The XO crew is taking over the R&B game. First Drake, then The Weeknd. Now? Julian Cruz, Omari Shakir, Kendrick Lamar. You know you gotta hit play when The Weeknd recommends it. Toronto just has talent.
These dropped back before August, so I’m a little late to the game, but these tracks are still kind of sitting on low heat. They’re just waiting to boil over. This dark, stab your ears with sexy stilettos, gothic style R&B paired to hollow beats and explicit lyrics is some good ish, and exactly what you should think about listening to.
Guess all we can do now is take out a cigarette and go walk around for a bit. Maybe find a pretty lady with high heels? Mmhmm.
The Weeknd Ft. Omari Shakir - XO Gang
The Weeknd - The Knowing
Kendrick Lamar - Swimming Pools
Kendrick Lamar feat. Dr Dre - The Recipe
The Weeknd - High For This (Herag Sanbalian Guitarist Audition)
Julian Cruz - Black Heart
Julian Cruz - Joy
Julian Cruz - Potion
Julian Cruz - Lust Spell
Omari Shakir - Nonchalant
Tia London Ft. Twista - Thinkin' Bout It (Remix) / Sometimes
Tia London - Sometimes
Mikkey Halsted feat. Tia London - I Got It (Produced By The Legendary Traxster)
The Weeknd - Wicked Games (New Version)
It's only been a few days since Universal Republic announced Toronto R&B singer, The Weeknd, is now apart of their music family, and fans already have a new version of the House Of Balloon's banger "Wicked Games."
"The Knowing" singer is scheduled to re-release his three highly acclaimed mixtapes, House Of Balloons, Thursday, and Echoes Of Silence as a trilogy package on November 13.
All of the mixtape tracks are slated to be re-mastered and re-edited for major label standards, and with those revisions some of the tracks may sound a little, well, different.
The Weeknd released the re-mastered version of "Wicked Games," which boasts a brand new intro and a few alternate variations.

Uniting all six 007 Bonds in one exhilarating car chase sequence using footage from Dr No, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, The Spy Who Loved Me, The Living Daylights, Goldeneye, The World Is Not Enough and Quantum of Solace, the seamless sequence features all of the Bonds as portrayed over the course of the franchise by Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig.
Skyfall, the next Bond movie, is due in cinemas late October / early November across the world, in which Bond's loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.

PSY - Gangnam Style
This track is trending all over the place ... not entirely sure why to be honest, but it's slowly growing on me and I'm sure it will become very obvious in Singapore next week.
"Gangnam Style" is a Korean language colloquialism that refers to a luxurious lifestyle associated with the Gangnam district, an affluent and trendy area of Seoul. Gangnam style is since widely associated with the posh lifestyle in Seoul, South Korea's district where people are trendy, hippy and exude a certain swag. In an interview, PSY compares Gangnam to Berverly Hills in the United States.
The music video depicts Psy dancing at various locations in Gangnam. The song translates to something along these lines:
"A lady who is warm like daylight, who knows how to enjoy a cup of coffee with ease, whose heart gets hotter as night gets near, a lady who has unexpected character.
I am a man who gets hot in the daytime like you! I am a man who can have one shot of coffee before cooling it down, a man with a heart that explodes at night, I am that kind of man. I am (big brother), Oppa Gangnam Style!!!
A lady who looks conservative, but knows when to play hard, a lady who knows when to let her hair down, a lady who seems fragile, but sexy at the same time.
I am a man's man, I may be conservative, yet I know when to have fun and play hard. A man who can go crazy when the time is right, a man who is bulging with social life instead of bulging with muscles. I am the man.
You are beautiful, lovable, yes, you."
Essentially, the song is about finding the perfect girlfriend who knows when to be refined and when to get wild (oh, hello!)

Akia - California (Remix)
This track used to be a repeat on the car CD player during a summer some time ago ... not sure when this was, but I do recall the windows down and a hot xmas period day, wind blowing through my hair, and a beach in the not too distant horizon...
Take the top off the ride
We can cruise around
Listen to the sound as the sun goes down
And there's a party goin on every corner
That's why I gotta be in California
Anjulie - You And I
Anjulie was born and raised in Oakville, Ontario, Canada and is the youngest of four children. Her parents are from Guyana but are of Indian descent, her grandparents having immigrated there from India. Anjulie's background and what she calls her "racial ambiguity" led to isolation while growing up; in middle school, she said, "the black kids would be on one side and the white kids would be on the other... so I would mostly hang out by myself and write". However, though "it was hard that [she] didn't fit in", she decided to embrace her differences and was driven to "carve [her] own niche".

Best foodies in Sydney
Some rose, some fell and plenty were rewarded for throwing their hat into the ring in a tough year for restaurants.
In the snakes and ladders world of Sydney dining, 27 restaurants gained at least one chef's hat at The Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide awards last night while 12 restaurants were shucked of their prestigious toques.
The great Italian diner Buon Ricordo leapfrogged the city's other great trattoria, Lucio's, the latter losing one of its two long-held hats and the former gaining one back to became a two-hatter.
However, it was a night to celebrate a slew of newcomers, who braved proclamations of the death of fine dining and the closure of at least a dozen top Sydney eateries to open restaurants.
A flurry of openings resulted in the highest number of metropolitan new entries in the history of the guide, among them Bar H by the former Kylie Kwong protege Hamish Ingham, Matt Moran's Chiswick and Star casino newcomers Balla, Black by Ezard and Momofuku Seiobo.
And despite the Restaurant of the Year award going to Peter Gilmore's Quay, it was a memorable year for Momofuku Seiobo, which completed the most astronomical rise ever seen by Good Food Guide editors Terry Durack and Joanna Savill.
The first Momofuku outside New York for the Korean-American chef David Chang, recently named one of Time magazine's 100 people who most affect our world, shot straight into the exclusive three-hat club after it opened in the Star last year.
The tiny 30-seater, headed by chef Ben Greeno, joins five other three-hatters: est., Marque, Quay, Rockpool on George and Sepia.
Despite their restaurant not joining the three-hat club, tattooed, rockabilly chefs Ben Milgate and Elvis Abrahanowicz, of Porteno, were named chefs of the year for being "great innovators that are steering the course with their own style and incredible talent", Savill said.
In previous years, the annual awards night has been the scene of tears, barbs and high-profile demotions - among them the shock move for Tetsuya's from three to two hats in 2010, where it remains this year - but there was "not a lot of blood on the floor this year," Savill said. "It's a celebration this time."

Alpine - A is for Alpine (album)
Big fan of this band since watching them play live at the Rdio Launch Party earlier this year ... after the release of their album this year, I cannot wait to keep an eye on what this band has to come in the future (two sold out Sydney shows and Triple J support can't be wrong).
After forming in 2009, national radio station Triple J played their demos on air and awarded them the ‘JJJ Unearthed Feature Artist Of The Week’ blue ribbon before they even had time to prepare their first live show. The band signed to Ivy League Records in August 2010, and released a single, ‘Heartlove’ a month later. Their first record, an EP titled ‘Zurich’, was released in November 2010, followed by a second single from the record, ‘Villages’. In October 2011, the first single from their debut album, entitled ‘Hands’ was released. The album ‘A is for Alpine’ has now been released as well.
2012 album from the Australian Indie Rock band. Alpine formed in 2009 and have gone from strength-to-strength ever since. Likened to Phoenix, Lykke Li and The xx, they’ve held the mantle of triple j Unearthed Feature Artist and have found friends online, on air and on paper. Fusing synths with honeyed harmonies, hypnotic rhythms and bright beats, Alpine appeared on the scene with a set of demos that quickly caught the attention of music lovers around the world. 2010 saw the release of their critically lauded debut EP Zurich as well as tours alongside the likes of Cloud Control, Jinja Safari, The Naked and Famous, Catcall, not to mention their own sold out national headline tour to boot.

Lyrics: Girl I Used To Know
How you doin, how you been
See you still go the same, so called friends
But I ain’t judging, to me it’s nice
To know this is what you made your life
On the surface everything can look so nice
But if you meet the girl inside you might think twice
She’ll be your habit, yeah, your one and only vice
Don’t you know that everything you want comes with a price
Girl I used to know
It’s been a minute since I’ve seen her
Say what you want, say what you like
Her eyes will keep you up at night
No matter what you try to do
She’ll always have her hooks in you
On the surface everything can look so nice
But if you meet the girl inside you might think twice
She’ll be your habit, yeah, your one and only vice
Don’t you know that everything you want comes with a price
It’s been a minute since I’ve seen her
Girl I used to know
It’s been a minute since I’ve seen her
The girl I used to know, just another face
It’s a classic mix up, honest mistake
Looking at her picture, sittin by the lake
Ain’t seen her in a minute but we still conversate
On a platonic basis, cause’ it’s complicated
You and your friends been had a bad reputation
If I’m not mistaken, only thing I was chasin’
Was a dollar and a dream, just trying to make it
Difference ‘tween me and them, I’m a gangsta
I admit you had me whipped, dominatrix
Had to flip the script, lot of time was wasted
My time is money and I don’t got the patience
I could be flipping bricks, I’d rather pound the pavement
With my Contreature congressmen congregating
Presidential shit, call it Obamanation
That’s big spit pimp soup, real conversation
Girl I used to know
It’s been a minute since I’ve seen her

I beg young people to travel
I beg young people to travel. If you don’t have a passport, get one. Take a summer, get a backpack and go to Delhi, go to Saigon, go to Bangkok, go to Kenya. Have your mind blown. Eat interesting food. Dig some interesting people. Have an adventure. Be careful. Come back and you’re going to see your country differently, you’re going to see your president differently, no matter who it is. Music, culture, food, water. Your showers will become shorter. You’re going to get a sense of what globalization looks like. It’s not what Tom Friedman writes about; I’m sorry. You’re going to see that global climate change is very real. And that for some people, their day consists of walking 12 miles for four buckets of water. And so there are lessons that you can’t get out of a book that are waiting for you at the other end of that flight. A lot of people—Americans and Europeans—come back and go, ohhhhh. And the light bulb goes on.

Did somebody say "Brunch"?
Breakfast is the perfect meal for catching up with friends and starting the day. Here are some of Sydney's top spots.
Kitchen by Mike (85 Dunning Ave, Rosebery)
Here's how it works at Kitchen by Mike: you take your enamel plate and point to the things you want to put in your mouth. The chefs behind the counter pile your plate and you just pay for each item individually once you're ready. It's kind of like a big party buffet, only made by an ex-head chef of Rockpool.
Cornersmith (314 Illawarra Rd, Marrickville)
Cornersmith's ploughman’s changes almost daily – it depends on what is in season. It could involve a chorizo scotch egg, sardines, black lentils and beetroot, zucchini and fetta salad, figs, free-range ham, aged cheddar married with a spicy house made tomato chutney, crusty rye bread and maybe even pear slices for a palate cleanser.
Reuben Hills (61 Albion St, Surry Hills)
Take a seat at the blue-tiled communal table out the back and check out the hot floor staff as they serve up some of the area’s best coffee.
Try a baleada while you’re here. The Honduras dish is a tortilla filled-then-folded with black beans for the veggos or pulled pork for the carnies. It’s a hefty number, and will most likely keep you going all day.
Double Roasters (199 Victoria Rd, Marrickville)
Taking up residence in an old warehouse that faces onto Victoria Road, Double Roasters aims to pack as much of the good stuff onto a slice of bread as is humanly possible. The croque monsieur is a monster of a toasted sambo on inch-thick pieces of bread with cheese sauce and ham in the centre and a golden cheese crust.
Joe Black (27 Commonwealth St, Surry Hills)
Tucked up on the business end of Commonwealth Street, it’s not about what’s on the menu, but how they do it at this inner-city hideaway. The usual suspects are all there - BLAT, bacon and egg sambo, granola - as well as the thoughtful additions of a roast veggie sandwich for meat-free types, and a savoury, vegan-friendly option of mushrooms and hummus on rye bread.
Four Ate Five (485 Crown St, Surry Hills)
This unassuming place is doing exceptional food, great juices, Single Origin coffee, and top of the line sangas. Order the pulled pork sandwich with striations of sweet, sweet meat that meld seamlessly with cooling fresh cucumber and apple spiced up with tomato chutney and slathered with aioli on dark sourdough.
Flour and Stone (53 Riley St, Woolloomooloo)
Who doesn't like brekkie dessert? Nadine Ingram, the master baker behind designer cookie business Cookie Couture, has opened up a new bakery right in the heart of Woolloomooloo. Think lemon drizzle cake, chocolate tarts, cinnamon buns, and a hazelnut torte that will leave you weak at the knees.
Revolver (291 Annandale St, Annandale)
This Annandale cafe does a big breakfast that is a thing of wonder: a veritable feast of house-made baked beans, mushrooms, bacon and pork sausage topped with two baked eggs, served in a cast iron pan. Starring alongside the breakfast is ‘flavoured oil' - Revolver's riff on chimmi churri – that should be applied liberally to anything within reach.
bills (433 Liverpool St, Darlinghurst)
Bills is one of those rare Sydney cafés that offer the whole package – we're talking service, food and interiors. Sit at the massive communal tablea nd order the classics such as the ricotta hotcakes with honeycomb butter and banana or the creamy scrambled eggs and the oft-emulated sweet corn fritters. It's a classic for a reason.
Fratelli Paradiso (12-16 Challis Ave, Potts Point)
The menus on the chalkboard are all in Italian, but not to worry – there’s a swathe of hot waiters to translate for you. Either drop by in the morning for the baked ricotta with stewed fruit or a fresh pastry; or if you aren't averse to a little pasta for breakfast order the amazing lasagne.
Two Door Cinema Club - Beacon (Album)
Following the impressive "Tourist History" album, here finally is their new album, "Beacon"
Beacon is a polished and accomplished album that makes up in style what it lacks in innovation. It’s a moody and thought-provoking listen and showcases the band’s talent for subtle quirks. Not the most groundbreaking thing you’ll hear all year, but easily one of the most enjoyable.
